Bayern Munich vs Stuttgart – Match Preview
Bayern Munich begin their Bundesliga title defence with confidence sky-high after a record-breaking 2025-26 campaign under Vincent Kompany. The Bavarians amassed 89 points, their highest tally in 12 seasons, and produced one of the most devastating attacks European football has seen in recent years.
Inspired by stars such as Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz, Bayern scored a remarkable 122 Bundesliga goals, setting a new league record and comfortably surpassing the previous mark of 101. While their attacking output was extraordinary, defensive consistency remained a slight concern, with the champions conceding 36 goals – more than Borussia Dortmund's total of 34.
Bayern have already lifted silverware this season after defeating Dortmund 2-1 in the German Supercup final on August 22. That victory extended an impressive run that has seen Kompany's side lose just once in their last 26 matches across all competitions.
During that stretch, Bayern have claimed 18 wins and scored at least three goals in 17 games, underlining their attacking strength. However, only seven clean sheets during the same period suggest there is still room for improvement at the back.
The Allianz Arena has become a fortress once again. Bayern are unbeaten in their last 11 home matches and could record a 10th victory in 12 home outings if they overcome Stuttgart. A win would also mark their fifth consecutive Bundesliga opening-day success.
Stuttgart, meanwhile, arrive in Munich after another impressive campaign under Sebastian Hoeness. A total of 62 points secured Champions League qualification for the second time in three seasons, continuing the club's resurgence under the highly regarded coach.
Hoeness deserves significant praise for building one of Germany's most entertaining sides. Stuttgart scored 71 league goals last season, a tally bettered only by Bayern, and demonstrated throughout the campaign that they can compete with the Bundesliga's elite.
Despite their progress, recent meetings with Bayern have been one-sided. Stuttgart have lost each of their last six encounters against the Bavarians, including a heavy 3-0 defeat in the DFB-Pokal final in May.
The visitors did begin the new season positively with a commanding 4-0 victory over Hansa Rostock in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. That result also ended a run of seven matches without a clean sheet, providing a welcome defensive boost ahead of a daunting trip to Munich.
However, Stuttgart's away form towards the end of last season remains a concern. They managed just one win from their final seven Bundesliga away matches, a sequence that included two defeats and several dropped points.

Bayern will be without Jamal Musiala after it was revealed that the German international has been dealing with a neurological disorder. Fortunately for the hosts, the issue is not expected to keep him sidelined for an extended period.
Nathaniel Brown impressed in an advanced role behind Harry Kane during the Supercup victory over Dortmund and could retain his place after finding the net in that match.
