Inter Miami vs Toronto FC: Match Preview

Inter Miami will be looking to return to winning ways when they host Toronto FC in MLS this weekend, with the Herons desperate to end a four-match winless run across all competitions.

Miami made another slow start in their previous match, falling behind after just 11 minutes. They responded strongly, scoring twice before the half-hour mark, but were unable to hold onto their advantage as the game eventually ended in a draw.

The result, combined with Nashville SC’s late victory, has left the reigning MLS Cup champions seven points behind the Boys in Gold in the Supporters’ Shield race.

Inter Miami will also be hoping to end a two-match competitive losing streak at home. Despite their recent struggles, the Herons remain one of MLS’s most dangerous attacking teams and currently lead the league in goals scored with 48.

However, their inability to finish chances has been a concern. Miami have missed 49 big chances, the most in MLS, while they have also dropped nine regular-season points after leading at half-time.

Historically, Miami have dominated Toronto at home. The Herons are unbeaten in their previous seven home meetings with TFC, winning six of those encounters. This fixture will also be the first meeting between the clubs at Nu Stadium.

Toronto FC arrive in Florida with plenty to fight for as they continue their pursuit of a playoff position in the Eastern Conference.

Robin Fraser’s side are only three points away from the final playoff spot and have shown impressive resilience throughout the season. Toronto have collected 10 points in MLS matches where they conceded first.

Although the Reds have managed just one victory in their last 14 league games, they have picked up points in five of their last six matches. A positive result against Miami would extend their unbeaten league run to four games.

Toronto have struggled on the road, recording only three away victories this season, the joint-lowest total in the Eastern Conference. However, another away win would give them more victories than they managed during the entire 2025 regular season.

Their defensive performances away from home have improved recently. Toronto have conceded no more than once in three of their last four MLS road games and have recorded two clean sheets during that run.

The major concern for Toronto remains their attacking creativity. They have created the third-fewest big chances in MLS this season, which could make it difficult to match Miami’s attacking quality.

Team News

Inter Miami could be without several players for the fixture. Micael is a doubt with an ankle problem, while Matteo Silvetti is dealing with a shoulder issue. German Berterame has suffered a nose injury, and Tadeo Allende remains doubtful because of a knee problem.

Yannick Bright will miss the match through suspension after receiving a red card late in Wednesday’s game. Rodrigo De Paul, meanwhile, is available again after serving his yellow-card suspension.

Daniel Pinter and Lionel Messi both scored in the midweek match, with the goals coming just five minutes apart. Messi has now reached 13 MLS goals during the regular season and will once again be the key attacking threat for Miami.

Toronto also have several concerns. Nelson Palacio remains doubtful as he continues his recovery from an earlier injury, while Jonathan Osorio is dealing with a knee problem. Deandre Kerr is also questionable because of a lower-body issue.

Walker Zimmerman will be suspended after receiving a straight red card against Charlotte FC. Djordje Mihailovic, however, is eligible to return following his suspension.

Markus Cimermancic, Daniel Salloi and Niklas Dorsch all scored for Toronto in their recent match, with Dorsch producing a dramatic 90th-minute equaliser.

Inter Miami will enter the contest as the favourites, particularly with their strong home record against Toronto and superior attacking numbers. However, Toronto’s recent resilience means the visitors could make this a competitive encounter if they can remain organised defensively and take advantage of their opportunities.
