Al Riyadh vs Al Nassr: Match Preview
Al Riyadh head into this Saudi Pro League clash under pressure as they fight to stay clear of the relegation zone. Daniel Carreno’s side currently sit 15th in the table with 12 points from 18 matches, just one point above the bottom three.
Their campaign has been difficult, with only two victories so far. Six draws and 10 defeats have left Al Riyadh struggling for consistency, while their defensive record remains a major concern.
The hosts have conceded 38 goals this season, the highest total in the division, while scoring only 18. Their poor goal difference reflects the difficulties they have faced at both ends of the pitch.
Recent results have done little to improve the situation. Al Riyadh are without a victory in their last five league matches, recording three draws and two defeats. Their most recent game ended in a 1-1 draw against Al Najma.
Defensive problems have also continued, with Carreno’s side failing to keep a clean sheet in their last 13 matches. They have also gone 13 consecutive league games without a win.
Playing at home has not provided a significant advantage either. Al Riyadh have collected only two wins from nine matches at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium, alongside three draws and four defeats.
Al Nassr Target Another Victory
Al Nassr arrive in much stronger form and remain firmly involved in the title race. Jorge Jesus’ side are second in the Saudi Pro League standings with 43 points from 18 matches, just three points behind leaders Al Hilal.
The visitors have won 14 of their 18 league games, drawing once and suffering three defeats. Their attacking numbers have been particularly impressive, with 48 goals scored, while they have conceded only 18.
Al Nassr have also found consistency in recent weeks, winning four of their last five league matches. Their latest performance saw them comfortably defeat Al Kholood 3-0.
Their away record has been equally impressive. Al Nassr have collected six wins, one draw and two defeats from nine away matches this season.
The head-to-head record also heavily favours the visitors. Al Nassr won the reverse fixture 5-1 and are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Al Riyadh, recording four victories and one draw.
Team News
Al Riyadh are expected to rely on Milan Borjan in goal, with Ammar Al-Harfi, Mohammed Al-Khaibari, Yoann Barbet and Osama Al-Bawardi likely to form the defensive line.
Ahmed Al Siyahi and Ismaila Soro should provide the midfield base, while Ibrahim Bayesh and Toze could operate in the wider areas.
Mamadou Sylla is expected to lead the attack, with Saud Haroun also likely to feature after scoring in Al Riyadh’s previous match.
Al Nassr will be without Sami Al-Najei and Saad Haqawi, who continue their recovery from injuries. Otherwise, Jorge Jesus has a strong squad available for the encounter.
Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to lead the attack after returning to the scoresheet in the 3-0 victory over Al Kholood. Joao Felix could partner him in the forward line as he looks to end his recent run without a goal.
At the back, Mohamed Simakan and Inigo Martinez are expected to continue in central defence, while Ali Alhassan and Angelo Gabriel should feature in midfield.
Match Outlook
Al Riyadh desperately need points as they attempt to move away from the relegation battle, but their recent record makes this a difficult assignment.
Al Nassr have been far more consistent throughout the campaign and possess significantly greater attacking firepower. With Ronaldo back among the goals and the visitors chasing the league leaders, they will be confident of securing another three points.
Al Riyadh will need a disciplined defensive performance and must take their chances if they are to produce an upset. However, Al Nassr’s current form, away record and dominance in recent meetings make the visitors the clear favourites.
