Match Preview

Levante face one of their toughest challenges of the season when they welcome a Barcelona side that have made a spectacular start to the 2026-27 campaign.

The hosts have collected five points from their opening four La Liga matches, putting them 11th in the table. Luis Castro's team began with a 3-0 defeat away to Espanyol before earning a goalless draw against Osasuna. They then produced an impressive 5-2 victory over Real Betis, followed by another 0-0 draw against Malaga.

Levante, who finished 16th in La Liga last season, have struggled against Barcelona historically. They have won just six of their previous 47 meetings in all competitions, while Barcelona have claimed victory in each of the last four encounters.

However, the recent head-to-head record has not always been one-sided. Two of the last four league meetings were decided by just one goal, both ending 3-2 in Barcelona's favour, while the sides played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Levante in May 2021.

Barcelona's six defeats against Levante have all come away from home, giving the hosts some reason for optimism. Nevertheless, Hansi Flick's side will travel with enormous confidence after an exceptional opening to the campaign.

The reigning Spanish champions followed four consecutive league victories with a dominant 5-1 Champions League win over Feyenoord in midweek. Barcelona have now scored 22 goals in their opening five matches across all competitions.

Their La Liga campaign has been particularly impressive, with victories over Elche (5-0), Athletic Bilbao (2-0), Rayo Vallecano (5-2) and Valencia (5-0). Those results have taken Barcelona to the top of the table with a perfect 12 points from 12.

Flick's team will be looking to maintain that perfect record against Levante before facing Racing de Santander and Sevilla ahead of the first international break.

Team News

Levante are expected to have a largely healthy squad available, although Karl Etta Eyong will undergo a late fitness assessment before the match.

Roger Brugué is expected to continue on the right flank after scoring twice in his three appearances this season. Ivan Romero is still searching for his first goal of the campaign but should retain his place in attack, while Enzo Bardeli is also expected to feature from the start.

Barcelona will be without Frenkie de Jong and Roony Bardghji, who are both sidelined with knee injuries.

Eric Garcia, meanwhile, is expected to be available after suffering a facial injury against Valencia. The defender could feature while wearing a protective mask.

With Barcelona having considerable depth across the squad, Flick is expected to rotate his starting XI following the Champions League victory over Feyenoord. Eric Garcia, Gerard Martin, Xavi Espart, Fermin Lopez and Anthony Gordon are among those who could come into the side.

Lamine Yamal and Raphinha are also expected to return to the starting lineup as Barcelona look to continue their outstanding attacking form.
