Sevilla vs Barcelona: Match Preview
Sevilla head into this La Liga clash in impressive form, having collected four wins, one draw and one defeat from their opening six league matches. Their 13-point tally has placed them fourth in the table and raised hopes of a potential push for Champions League qualification.
Luis Garcia Plaza's side began the campaign with consecutive victories against Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Bilbao before suffering their first defeat against Atletico Madrid at the end of August. Since then, Sevilla have responded strongly, taking seven points from their last three league matches. They drew with Espanyol before securing successive victories over Valencia and Deportivo La Coruna.
Sevilla have not finished inside the top four in La Liga since the 2021-22 season, but their early-season performances suggest they could challenge for a place in Europe's premier club competition this term.
The hosts will also take confidence from their remarkable 4-1 victory over Barcelona in the corresponding fixture last season. However, Barcelona gained revenge in the most recent meeting, recording a 5-2 victory in March.
Barcelona arrive in Seville with an outstanding start to the new campaign. Hansi Flick's side have won all seven of their matches across La Liga and the Champions League, including a 7-2 victory over Racing de Santander in their most recent league fixture.
The Catalan club opened their Champions League campaign with a 5-1 win over Feyenoord on September 9 and have also defeated Elche, Athletic Bilbao, Rayo Vallecano, Valencia, Levante and Racing in domestic competition.
