Barcelona vs Alaves: Match Preview, Team News and Form Guide

Barcelona will be looking to return to winning ways when they welcome Deportivo Alaves to Camp Nou in their upcoming La Liga encounter. Hansi Flick's side are under pressure to respond after suffering consecutive defeats in all competitions, while Alaves will be hoping to take advantage of Barcelona's recent struggles and secure a positive result away from home.

Barcelona made an outstanding start to the 2026-27 campaign, winning their opening 11 matches across all competitions. However, their impressive run has recently come to an end following two disappointing results.

The Catalan giants suffered a 4-2 defeat against European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on October 20 before losing 2-1 to Real Madrid in the latest edition of El Clasico. Those setbacks have raised concerns about Barcelona's defensive performances and their ability to maintain consistency against top opposition.

Despite the recent defeats, Barcelona remain at the top of the La Liga standings with 27 points. However, their advantage has been reduced, with Atletico Madrid sitting just two points behind and Real Madrid only three points adrift.

This makes the upcoming fixture particularly important for Flick's team as they look to protect their position at the summit. Barcelona also have a demanding schedule ahead, with a Champions League meeting against Aston Villa next week followed by a significant league clash against Atletico Madrid on November 8.

Historically, Barcelona have enjoyed considerable success against Alaves, winning 36 of their previous 51 meetings across all competitions. However, Alaves claimed a narrow 1-0 victory in their most recent encounter in May, demonstrating that they can cause problems for the Catalan side.

Barcelona have also maintained an unbeaten home record against Alaves since September 2016. Flick will therefore expect his players to deliver a strong response in front of their supporters and avoid suffering a third consecutive defeat.

Alaves, meanwhile, arrive at Camp Nou looking to end a disappointing spell in La Liga. Quique Sanchez Flores' side have collected 12 points from their opening 10 league matches, recording three victories, three draws and four defeats to occupy seventh place in the standings.

Their latest outing ended in a 1-1 draw against Malaga, extending their winless run in the Spanish top flight to six matches. Their last league victory came at the beginning of September, when they produced an impressive 5-2 win over Osasuna.

Alaves finished 14th in La Liga last season, narrowly avoiding relegation by just one point. Although their current seventh-place position represents an improvement, their recent results suggest that consistency remains a major challenge.

Defensively, Alaves have conceded 11 goals this season, matching Barcelona's total. However, the difference between the two sides is particularly noticeable in attack. Barcelona have scored 40 league goals, compared with Alaves' 14, highlighting the attacking quality available to Flick.

Alaves will need to produce an organised defensive performance while making the most of their opportunities if they hope to trouble the league leaders. Barcelona's recent defensive weaknesses could offer the visitors some encouragement ahead of this difficult encounter.

Team News

Barcelona have suffered another injury setback following their recent El Clasico defeat against Real Madrid. Xavi Espart is expected to miss approximately seven weeks after sustaining an ankle injury during that match.

His absence could create an opportunity for Alejandro Balde to make his first start of the campaign. The 23-year-old will be hoping to take advantage of the opportunity and establish himself as an important part of Flick's plans.

Barcelona will also be without Dani Olmo, who is recovering from an adductor problem, while Roony Bardghji and Eric Garcia remain unavailable because of knee and thigh injuries respectively.

Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen have also failed late fitness tests, leaving Barcelona with further defensive concerns ahead of the weekend fixture.

In midfield, Fermin Lopez, Rodri and Pedri are expected to continue as the preferred combination despite Frenkie de Jong recently returning to fitness. Flick may prefer to maintain the existing midfield structure as Barcelona look to regain their rhythm.

Alaves have fewer injury problems heading into the trip to Camp Nou. Facundo Garces and Mikel Rodriguez are both expected to miss the match because of knee injuries, but the visitors are otherwise in relatively good condition.

Lucas Boye has been one of Alaves' most effective attacking players this season. The forward has scored five goals in nine appearances and is expected to retain his place in the starting lineup.

Former Real Madrid attacker Mariano Diaz is also likely to feature through the middle. He has contributed three goals and four assists in 10 appearances this season and will be an important attacking option for the visitors.

Alaves will hope their attacking players can exploit Barcelona's defensive vulnerabilities, while Flick will demand a convincing response from his squad after two consecutive defeats.
