Philadelphia Union vs Inter Miami: Match Preview
Philadelphia Union will look to continue their impressive turnaround when they welcome Inter Miami to Subaru Park on Wednesday in a crucial MLS encounter.
The Union have shown plenty of character in recent weeks, coming from two goals down to win each of their last two league matches. Under interim head coach Ryan Richter, Philadelphia appear to have rediscovered their confidence and will be aiming for a fifth consecutive victory in MLS.
Despite their recent improvement, the Union still have work to do in the Eastern Conference. They currently sit five points outside the playoff places and have recorded five league victories during the 2026 campaign.
Philadelphia will also be looking to extend their impressive home run. They are unbeaten in their last six MLS matches at Subaru Park and have won each of their previous three home league fixtures.
Interestingly, the Union have collected 10 points in MLS matches this season after conceding the opening goal, demonstrating their ability to fight back from difficult positions. However, they have struggled against Florida-based opponents, failing to pick up a point from either of their two league meetings with teams from the state this year while conceding 10 goals.
Inter Miami Looking to End Losing Run
Inter Miami, meanwhile, will arrive in Philadelphia desperate for a response after a difficult spell of form.
The Herons suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat away to Nashville SC last weekend, missing the opportunity to move to the top of the Eastern Conference. The result left Miami five points behind Nashville and marked interim head coach Angel Guillermo Hoyos's first away defeat.
Miami have now lost their last three matches across all competitions, conceding nine goals during that run. They will be determined to stop that slide against a Philadelphia side that has been in excellent domestic form.
The reigning MLS Cup champions could also suffer consecutive away defeats in the regular season for the first time since October 2023 if they lose on Wednesday.
Miami have nevertheless shown that they can respond after conceding first, winning three MLS matches in 2026 after falling behind. One of those victories came away from home, when they defeated Orlando City 4-2 in March.
The Herons also have a strong recent record against Philadelphia. They are unbeaten in their last six meetings with the Union across all competitions and have avoided defeat in their previous three visits to Subaru Park.
Philadelphia Union Team News
Philadelphia have one major fitness concern heading into the match, with Geiner Martinez potentially still in concussion protocol. Jovan Lukic, meanwhile, will miss the contest through suspension.
Teenager Cavan Sullivan was one of the standout performers in Philadelphia's latest victory, providing two assists in the win over New York City FC. Bruno Damiani scored twice, while Danley Jean Jacques also found the net.
Sullivan's continued development will be one of the major storylines to watch, particularly after another influential performance from the young Homegrown player.
Inter Miami Team News
Inter Miami have several fitness concerns of their own.
Mateo Silvetti is dealing with a shoulder problem, while Santiago Morales has a quad strain. Micael is questionable because of an ankle issue, and German Berterame remains doubtful as he continues to go through concussion protocol.
Lionel Messi once again played a central role for Miami in their previous match. Although he missed a penalty, the Argentine superstar provided the assist for Telasco Segovia's goal during first-half stoppage time.
Messi will be expected to lead Miami's response as the Herons attempt to end their three-game losing streak and get their Eastern Conference campaign back on track.
With Philadelphia enjoying a strong run of home form and Miami desperate to halt their recent slide, Wednesday's meeting promises to be a fascinating battle between two teams heading into the match with very different levels of momentum.
