Calicut FC vs Malappuram FC: Match Preview, Team News & Derby Stakes
Calicut FC are unbeaten against Malappuram FC in the Malabar Derby
The Super League Kerala 2026 season is set for one of its most anticipated encounters as Calicut FC prepare to face Malappuram FC in the famous Malabar Derby.
The highly anticipated fixture will take place on October 2 at the EMS Corporation Stadium in Calicut, with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 PM IST.
Match Preview
Calicut FC and Malappuram FC have experienced contrasting starts to their Super League Kerala 2026 campaigns.
Calicut FC made a strong statement in their opening fixture, securing a comfortable 2-0 victory over Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC. Meanwhile, Malappuram FC suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Forca Kochi FC, conceding a late goal despite putting in a determined defensive performance.
Both sides will now turn their attention to the Malabar Derby, a fixture that carries enormous significance for players and supporters alike.
Calicut FC have enjoyed the upper hand in their previous four meetings, winning three matches, while the remaining encounter ended in an entertaining 3-3 draw. Malappuram FC will be determined to end that unbeaten run and secure their first victory over their regional rivals.
With local pride, valuable league points and bragging rights at stake, the upcoming derby promises to be a fiercely contested encounter.
Calicut FC: Looking to Maintain Their Dominance
Calicut FC will enter the derby with confidence following their impressive opening-day victory.
The Malabarians currently occupy second place in the Super League Kerala 2026 standings with three points. A victory against Malappuram FC would strengthen their position near the top of the table and potentially help them reclaim the leading spot.
Having already demonstrated their attacking quality and defensive discipline, Calicut FC will be eager to deliver another convincing performance in front of their home supporters.
Their impressive record against Malappuram FC will provide an additional confidence boost. However, they will need to remain focused against a determined opponent looking to make a statement in the derby.
A win would not only extend Calicut FC's unbeaten record against Malappuram FC but also establish their regional dominance once again.
Malappuram FC: Seeking Redemption
Malappuram FC will be disappointed with the outcome of their opening match against Forca Kochi FC.
Despite producing a disciplined defensive display, they conceded a late goal that left them without a point. The upcoming derby offers an opportunity to respond positively and put their disappointing start behind them.
Malappuram FC have yet to defeat Calicut FC in their four previous encounters, making this fixture particularly important for the club and its supporters.
A victory would represent a significant breakthrough in the rivalry while also providing a much-needed boost to their league campaign.
With the top four positions in their sights, Malappuram FC will be determined to secure their first points of the season and avoid another difficult campaign similar to their struggles in Super League Kerala 2024.
Team News
As of the latest available information, neither Calicut FC nor Malappuram FC have reported any injury concerns or suspensions ahead of the Malabar Derby.
Both teams are therefore expected to have their available squads at their disposal for this important encounter.
What to Expect
The Malabar Derby is more than just another league fixture. It is a contest defined by regional pride, passionate supporters and a rivalry that continues to grow with every meeting.
Calicut FC will aim to build on their winning start and extend their impressive record against Malappuram FC. Meanwhile, Malappuram FC will be desperate to secure their first victory over their rivals and kick-start their campaign.
With both teams having plenty to prove, the upcoming encounter promises an exciting evening of football in Calicut.
